Leading Workshop on Current State and Future Objectives of Garment, Footwear and Travel Goods Sector

Sok Xing & Hwang facilitated a 04 November 2020 workshop organized by ILO-Better Factories Cambodia on the development of a joint plan for sustainable compliance in the Cambodian garment, footwear and travel goods industry.

Led by Managing Director Sok Lor, Senior Director Hans S. Hwang, and Senior Counsel Larry Strange, SXH communicated key findings of 2020 consultation sessions with industry partners and stakeholders on the state of the industry, including as affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and presented an analysis and model framework for a joint plan, including core elements and governance considerations. SXH also facilitated dialogue among participants—major manufacturing conglomerates and enterprise management, officials of employers’ associations, confederation trade union leaders, global brand representatives and officials of the Royal Government of Cambodia—on their commitment to a joint plan and way forward for its development and implementation.

H.E. Heng Sour, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, expressed his appreciation of the workshop and commitments from participants, and stressed the importance of the continued cooperation of all partners to ensure the sustainable development of the industry.

ILO-Better Factories Cambodia has engaged SXH, through its Public Policy & Development Impact practice, to facilitate the process among industry stakeholders of developing a strategic vision and joint plan toward a culture of sustainable compliance in the garment, footwear and travel goods industry in Cambodia.
