CEOs Discuss Draft Law on Procedures for Labor Dispute Resolution
While the existing labor dispute resolution mechanisms (including the Arbitration Council) have played a crucial role in maintaining and promoting industrial peace and doing business environment in Cambodia, there is a need for further improvement to address the challenges of lack of space for individual dispute resolution and ineffectiveness of enforcement of non-binding arbitration decisions.
On 12 September 2017 at Himawari Hotel, Mr. Sok Lor provided a high-level overview of the draft law on labor dispute resolution/adjudication to approximately 60 foreign and local CEOs and management of private corporations in Cambodia. Under discussion were also key potential impacts of the draft law, as it stands, on the climate for doing business and foreign investment in Cambodia, and the corresponding necessity for changes and adjustment to the draft law. On the panel with Mr. Sok Lor were Mr. Van Souieng, President of the Cambodian Federation of Employers and Business Associations, and Mr. Men Nimmith, Executive Director of the Arbitration Council Foundation.
