Youth Presented with Labor Market Policy and Its Interlink with Industrial Development Policy
“Labor market policy has to be implemented to serve the overarching industrial development policy goals of Cambodia if the country is to see greater growth and poverty reduction”, said Mr. Sok Lor, Managing Director of Sok Xing & Hwang during the special guest lecture at the University of Cambodia in Phnom Penh on 01 July 2017.
Following Mr. Sok Lor’s introduction on Cambodia’s economic performance and key challenges faced by the country, the session attended by approximately young students discussed a diverse spectrum of matters concerning labor market policy and the state of industrial relations in Cambodia. Covered by the discussion were issues concerning the significance and challenges in respect of foreign investment and capital, the role of trade unions in national economy and preservation and promotion of labor rights, the impacts of the adoption of trade union law on the state of industrial relations, as well as specific labor and employment cases and how they should be addressed under the framework of the labor law and its implementing regulations.
Mr. Sok Lor expressed to the students his deep pleasure to have received the invitation to speak at the University of Cambodia, where he taught as a part-time law instructor about a decade ago. In addition, he lauded the growing role of the university in contributing to building the skills and knowledge needed by Cambodian youth to participate meaningfully in the labor market and more broadly Cambodia’s growth and development.
