Mr. Larry Strange Moderates Manufacturing Panel Discussion, International Business Summit 2017

On 15 February 2017, Senior Counsel of Sok Xing & Hwang Mr. Larry Strange moderated the Manufacturing Panel discussion at Cambodia’s International Business Summit 2017, organized by the International Business Chamber in Cambodia.
With the moderation of Mr. Larry Strange, the panelists of diverse backgrounds were requested to provide perspectives on a diversity of useful challenges and prospects on manufacturing in Cambodia. These views span across the following central areas and questions:
- the flagship government policy of Industrial Development Policy 2015 – 2015 and how it has supported innovative and competitive manufacturing
- the role of monetary policy and the potential challenges that lie ahead in achieving the next stage of Cambodia’s industrial development, with the focus on manufacturing
- the determinative factors – local and international – that will determine the continued health and stability of garment manufacturing in Cambodia going forward
- the creation of effective Special Economic Zones and the key ingredients in ensuring broader success of SEZs in attracting value-added manufacturing to Cambodia, and
- how commitment to quality working conditions and corporate social responsibility at the core of business strategy is and will be sustainable and competitive in the next stage of the development of manufacturing in Cambodia
The panelists were comprised of leaders in the Cambodian government and the private sector, including HE Sok Chenda Sophea, Minister attached to the Prime Minister and Secretary General of the Council for the Development of Cambodia; HE Chea Serey, General Director of the National Bank of Cambodia; Mr. Van Souieng, Chairman of the Garment Manufacturers Association in Cambodia; Mr. Hiroshi Uematsu, CEO of Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone; and Mr Piet Holten, CEO of Pactics.
