On 11 January 2017, at Cambodiana Hotel Managing Director of Sok Xing & Hwang – at the invitation of the International Business Chamber in Cambodia – addressed members of the Chamber on the negotiation process, raison d'être and the business implications of the minimum wage law in Cambodia.

Mr. Sok Lor in his capacity as Secretary General of Cambodian Federation of Employers and Business Associations has been leading the private sector employers and business associations in the negotiation of the draft minimum wage law vis-à-vis the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training and trade union federations.

Once enacted, the law will prescribe the framework for the negotiation of the minimum wage in sectors other than the garment, textile and footwear sectors. The National Wage Council, a new tripartite mechanism to be set up under the law, shall have the duties to determine among other things, which new sectors of the economy shall be covered by a minimum wage.
