Sok Xing & Hwang Directors Participate as Key Note Speaker and Moderator at 7th National Industrial Relations Conference
On July 5th, Sok Xing & Hwang’s Managing Director, Sok Lor, and Senior Director, Hans S. Hwang, participated as the Key Note Speaker and as Moderator, respectively, at the 7th National Industrial Relations Conference, held at Raffles Le Royal in Phnom Penh.
Organized by the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, the Arbitration Council and Arbitration Council Foundation, the Conference brought together key industrial relations actors and stakeholders in Cambodia and the region for a full day of presentations and discussions under the theme of Cambodian Industrial Relations: Maturity and Commitment to Growth.
In his key note address to the audience, Mr. Lor encouraged labor market actors to work toward a new level of industrial peace and harmony and attractive investment environment in Cambodia through greater use of collective bargaining agreements, candid implementation of the agreements, and stricter enforcement of industrial relations laws.. Mr. Lor’s key note address followed opening remarks by H.E. Dr. Ith Sam Heng, Minister of the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, H.E. Anna Maj Hultgard, Ambassador of Sweden to Cambodia, and representatives of the U.S. Embassy and the Arbitration Council.
Mr. Hwang moderated a session on the Role of Collective Bargaining and Good Practices, with a panel comprised of Dr. Kong Phallack, Dean and Professor of Law at Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia, and Commissioner Michael Gay, member of the Tasmanian Industrial Commission in Australia. The session included a role play and presentations on the state of industrial relations, as well as an interactive discussion with the audience on challenges and opportunities for collective bargaining in Cambodia.
