Competitiveness and Ease of Doing Business Discussed at Cambodia-EU Dialogue 2017

Careful legal policy formulation that avoids imposing unnecessary onus on businesses is essential for contributing to ease of doing business in FDI-seeking Cambodia, said Mr. Sok Lor, Managing Director of Sok Xing & Hwang at the Cambodia-EU Dialogue 2017, which took place at Raffles Hotel Le Royal on 26 September 2017. To build and sustain business confidence and advance FDI inflow into Cambodia, it is crucial to revamp the role of the judiciary, presently seen as a weak institution, to ensure reliability and independence for resolution of business disputes, he added.

The Cambodia-EU 2017 served as a policy platform to bridge the policy discussion between the private sector and the government on a diversity of topics important to advancing Cambodia’s competitiveness and ease of doing business. These span across tax and customs, logistics, human resources and productivity, industrial relations, real estate, among others.

Joining Mr. Sok Lor on the panel on “Ongoing Reforms to Improve the Ease of Doing Business in Cambodia” were Okhna Sear Rithy, Chairman of Worldbridge Group of Companies, Mr. Eric Delobel, CEO of Cambodia Airports, as well as representatives from Ministry of Economy and Finance and Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training.
